American Legion Flag Essay Contest - This contest seeks to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the United States Flag on the part of elementary-level students. It also serves to provide greater respect for the flag and knowledge of flag etiquette. Post 735 historically sponsors this event locally at Viola Gibson, Hiawatha and Nixon Elementary Schools. American Legion Post 735 Scholarship - The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial aid to a student related to a veteran. Competition for the scholarship is open to local high school seniors. The criteria for the scholarship is available here.

Schweinefus Citizenship Award - This award is dedicated to Conley Schweinefus, who was adedicated member of Post 735 and an avid supporter of youth programs. The award is presented annually by the Post to an outstanding student from Kennedy High School. A recipient must possess the highest qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service.
